Both men and women certainly have their experiences with shaving and removing unwanted hair in various areas. Perhaps you yourself have tried different methods with varying degrees of success. But which one is the most effective? Let’s take a look at how to get rid of hair in the best way, whether your priority is cost, longevity, or the safety of the procedure.
Obsah
However, if you’re looking for a truly long-term solution, there is only one choice. No other method can match laser hair removal in terms of both effectiveness and lasting results. Come and see for yourself at our salon!
Laser hair removal. The best way to get rid of hair forever
Currently, there is no method that can offer a more effective and longer-lasting hair removal than laser hair removal.
During this procedure, the selected area is exposed to a laser pulse, which, upon contact with the hair, transforms into thermal energy. This energy travels down the hair to the follicle, burning and damaging it enough that the hair will not regrow for several years.
There are multiple advantages to laser hair removal, including:
- Longevity of results. Well performed laser hair removal can prevent further hair growth for years, in exceptional cases even permanently. If hair starts to grow back after a while, it is no problem to maintain the longevity of the result with a simple corrective epilation.
- Painlessness. When using a quality laser, you should not feel anything during the procedure. A local anaesthetic cream is usually applied during the epilation. Most lasers also have built-in cooling.
- Suitability for every party. Laser hair removal is gentle and can be used by those who are thinking about getting rid of hair in intimate areas and other areas with sensitive skin where other procedures may not be suitable.
Laser hair removal is not a one-time procedure, the laser only removes hairs in the active phase of growth, which must be adapted to the schedule of the overall treatment. Complete hair removal requires a period of several months, during which the client typically undergoes 5-6 short sessions.
Despite the higher cost, laser hair removal remains clearly the best method if you want to save time spent on other forms of waxing and shaving. By the way, men can enjoy laser hair removal just as much as women without shame!
Waxing is not the solution to getting rid of hair in the long term. But in the short term it will help
Waxing can give you up to several weeks of peace of mind from unwanted hair. This procedure consists of applying wax, which must be heated in advance, to the area to be treated in the direction of hair growth. The wax is allowed to harden and then pulled off in a sharp motion against the direction of growth.
Alternatively, pre-prepared wax strips that can be used directly in the cold can be used as an alternative to heating and applying the wax.
Waxing pulls out the hair with the roots, but does not lead to the complete elimination of the hair as with laser hair removal. Expect that after about 4-6 weeks new hairs will start to grow and the procedure will have to be repeated.
The main disadvantage of this method of hair removal is its painfulness. If you are not used to waxing, you may be surprised at first how unpleasant the experience of waxing is, even if you prepare your skin for the procedure in advance, for example with a hot bath to help enlarge the pores.
You also need to know how to work with wax, so your first attempts at this type of waxing may not yield the desired results.
Sugar depilation. The way to get rid of hair more gently
- Sugar paste, unlike wax, is applied in reverse, i.e., against the direction of hair growth, and peels off in the direction after setting.
- Sugar waxing is considered to be a gentler method than waxing and is therefore suitable for more sensitive skin that reacts badly to waxing. Even so, sugar waxing is not completely pain-free.
- Sugar waxing works best on shorter hairs, while waxing can be used on hairs of any length.
- Sugar waxing is generally considered to have a slightly lower effect than waxing, and sometimes also a shorter duration of results.
Shaving or the most widespread weapon in the fight against hair
The classic razor or razor shave still leads the way for most people. No wonder – it’s easy, fast and doesn’t cost much. On the other hand, shaving only removes the top part of the hair, so after a few days it grows back and you can start again. So the main disadvantage of shaving is its time-consuming nature.
In addition, if you choose a poor-quality razor or shaver, or simply shave using the wrong technique, you can also cause complications in the form of irritated skin, pimples or very unpleasant ingrown hairs.
That’s why you might find our shaving tips useful:
- It is important to prepare your skin before shaving. Warm water can help open the pores and soften the hairs, making it easier to shave. You can take a shower or use a warm, damp towel.
- Choose good quality razors and shavers and a good quality shaving cream or foam. The blade should always be clean and sharp. This will prevent irritation and ensure that the shave is as smooth as possible.
- Although it is possible to shave against the direction of hair growth, we recommend that you shave in the direction you prefer to reduce the risk of ingrown hairs and irritation. Work in gentle strokes and do not put too much pressure on the skin.
- It is important to moisturise the skin after shaving. A moisturiser or balm is ideal to help soothe the skin and prevent irritation.
- Change the blades regularly to keep them sharp and clean. Dull blades can cause irritation and shaving with them will never be as effective.
- Gently tighten the skin in the area you are shaving. This allows the razor blades to make easier contact with the hairs.
- After shaving, rinse the area with cool water to close and soothe the pores. This can help reduce irritation and leave your skin fresh.
Depilation cream. Painless, but won't permanently get rid of hair
You can also get rid of hair with one of the special depilatory creams. These creams are easy to work with, you simply apply them, leave them on for a set amount of time, and then wipe them off with a spatula or wash them off.
The active ingredients in the cream help dissolve creatine, the main building material of hair. The hair is thus chemically destroyed and falls out or dissolves.
Cream hair removal is painless and therefore very popular, although it is not usually recommended for use on sensitive areas or generally for people with sensitive skin.
Its disadvantage, however, is that the cream has little effect on the hair bulb deeper in the skin, so again it offers only a superficial solution – after a few days the hairs will reappear, although they may perhaps be weaker. The cream therefore has no longer term results.
How to get rid of hair the natural way? Grandma's advice on what you can try
In addition to the “official” ways to deal with hair, you can try an alternative.
These are various natural methods and old wives’ tips for depilatory products made from ingredients you can find at home.
These include:
- Baking soda with coffee. 1 teaspoon baking soda, 2 teaspoons ground coffee, 1 teaspoon water. Massage in, leave for a while, rinse with water.
- Lemon, yogurt, chickpea flour. Prepare a mixture of 5 tablespoons of chickpea flour, 1 teaspoon of yoghurt and add the juice of about half a lemon. Apply the mixture, let it set for about 20 minutes and peel off in the direction of hair growth.
- Turmeric, milk and chickpeas. 1 teaspoon turmeric, about 125 ml milk, and 2 tablespoons chickpea flour. Apply the resulting paste and leave for about 20 minutes, then rinse with water. Repeat this process weekly to soften and weaken the hairs.
- Lemon + baking soda. 20 grams of baking soda and the juice of 1 lemon make a thick paste. After applying it, let it sit for about 10 minutes and wash it off.
Natural methods can be an interesting alternative, or rather a complement to other methods. However, we have our doubts about their effectiveness, so consider them here more as a curiosity that can be tried, but probably will not solve your problems completely.
You will see visible results after your first session in our salon. Come and see for yourself!
The best method if you are concerned about the permanence of the results
- If you choose purely on the basis of how long a method will get rid of hair, then the number one choice is definitely permanent laser hair removal. The results can last several years on their own. Plus, if you come in for a touch-up session about once a year, you can keep your skin smooth virtually all the time.
- We would rank waxing and sugar waxing second. Both methods are quite effective, and you can enjoy hair-free skin for up to several weeks because they pull out the hair with the root - but unlike laser, they don't destroy the bulb.
- Third place goes to cream hair removal. This can give you 3-7 days without hair, and it is possible that with regular repetition, the hairs will be weaker and fewer.
- Then there is the classic shave. This must be repeated every three days if you want to ensure perfectly smooth skin. This is the most time-consuming solution and only a short-term solution.
- The effect and durability of the results can vary considerably between the old-fashioned and natural methods, which is why we mention them only in passing.
How to get rid of hair in individual parts as effectively as possible?
The skin on the face is thinner and more sensitive. We therefore do not recommend drastic methods such as waxing. You can opt for conventional shaving, but ladies in particular should be aware that unwanted hairs are only briefly removed by shaving and can be even thicker when they grow back.
Therefore, you can choose either one of the old wives’ recipes, a depilatory cream designed for the face, or a permanent solution with laser epilation.
Shaving the back is the nemesis of perhaps everyone who has decided to fight hair here. With shaving and waxing here you usually need the help of another person, which makes everything even more complicated.
The skin on the back tends to be tough and thicker, so all the methods mentioned here can be used. However, only laser hair removal will allow you to get rid of hair in this area for years.
The battle with buttock hair is perhaps even more complicated than that of the back, and without the help of an understanding partner or a specialist salon, you may give up beforehand.
The skin on the buttocks is also slightly more sensitive than on the back, which should be taken into account when choosing the right method. Ideally, a laser should be used here, which will relieve you of the unpleasantness of having to shave these areas repeatedly in the long term.
The skin of the legs is also not very sensitive, so you can experiment with different methods of hair removal and epilation. Many women choose waxing and wax strips for their legs, and it is true that this method is perhaps the best of all. But as always, if you are concerned about the permanence of the result, then the choice is clear – laser.
The underarms are one of the areas where people most often want to get rid of hair. Firstly, for aesthetic reasons and secondly for hygienic reasons – shaved armpits smell less in the warmer months of the year.
All in all, there is nothing to prevent you from trying various approaches to this area, it is not a particularly sensitive area or one that requires special consideration. You could just as easily go for a razor, waxing, cream or long-term laser epilation.
The cult of the smooth chest and abdomen has taken over a large part of the male population. Let’s leave the hairy chests in the 70s and see how to get rid of belly and chest hair in the best possible way.
Traditional shaving is possible, but tedious and you should prefer one of the longer-term solutions. This can be waxing and sugar waxing with results for several weeks, or permanent laser hair removal.
Women in particular want smooth hands, but many men may also decide to tame unwanted hand growth. Hands are not a sensitive part of the body, so any shaving, waxing or epilation procedure can be used on them.
The skin of the intimate parts is sensitive, so we cannot recommend chemical depilation here. Waxing and sugaring may not be very pleasant here either. You are therefore left with two choices – to still decide how to shave your intimate areas, or laser hair removal.
Laser hair removal. The clear winner among the various methods of combating hair
In our comparison, laser hair removal is rightly the best so far. It is a method that is fast, painless and above all eliminates hair with much greater efficiency than other methods.
However, the success of laser hair removal depends on a number of factors that you should keep in mind if you decide to undergo this procedure.
- The first crucial step is choosing a good salon. It should have good references, certified staff, and be equipped with a quality laser—many older lasers may no longer provide satisfactory results.
- It’s also important to complete all sessions as part of the procedure, which typically involves about 5-6 sessions depending on the area treated. Many people come for only the first two or three sessions, thinking they’re done. That’s a mistake!
- The effectiveness of laser hair removal also depends on proper preparation and care after the procedure. Therefore, it's essential to follow every instruction from your specialist closely!
- Laser hair removal may not be the cheapest option, but in the long run, the cost will be offset by the time saved and partly by the money you would otherwise spend on less effective solutions.
